Anatomy of REST:Īlright, so now we know that data can be requested by the client and the server will respond appropriately. There will be a server listening on that endpoint for requests like the one we made. The returned data is in JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) and can be accessed directly. I will be using Postman to show you the request and response: postman: setting up request Words are boring, let me give you a demonstration. We connect to that endpoint and send in some data about us (remember, REST is stateless, no data about the request is stored) and the server responds with the correct response. In programming terms, there is an endpoint (a URL) that the server is waiting to get a request. In very broad terms, you ask the server for a certain data or ask it to save some data, and the server responds to the requests. Other alternatives to this are: GraphQL, JSON-Pure and oData. We will talk about this in great detail below. REST API: this defines the endpoint and methods allowed to access/submit data to the server. There are many popular libraries that make creation of these servers a breeze, like ExpressJS for NodeJS and Django for Python. Others examples are code libraries like axios, superagent and got or some dedicated apps like Postman (or an online version, postwoman!), or a command line tool like cURL!. But, this was succeeded by FetchAPI, a modern, promise based approach to requests. The browser, for a long time, used an in-built function called XMLHttpRequest for all REST requests. You are using one right now! Yes, the browser can act as an uncontrolled REST client (the website handles the browser requests). REST Client: code or an app that can access these REST services.Okay, so now that you know what RESTful services are, here are some of the terms used in the heading: These intermediary servers (be it proxy or load balancers) allow for scalability and security of the underlying server. Layered system: client should not be able to tell if it is communicating directly with the server or some intermediary. This means each request to the server should be made with all the required data and no assumptions should be made if the server has any data from previous requests. Statelessness: the communication should have no client context stored on server.Client-Server Architecture: the user interface of the website/app should be separated from the data request/storage, so each part can be scaled individually. There are a few constraints on the definition of REST: REST is basically a set of rules for communication between a client and server. Let's demystify what that means (hopefully you got the full form). RESTful Web services allow the requesting systems to access and manipulate textual representations of Web resources by using a uniform and predefined set of stateless operations So, what is REST? According to Wikipedia: Representational state transfer ( REST) is a software architectural style that defines a set of constraints to be used for creating Web services. Let's dive a bit deeper into JavaScript! Get that jargon away We'll declassify some of the jargon and have a look at how we can code a server in NodeJS. In this beginner friendly guide, I will walk you through the process of setting up a RESTful API. Ever wondered how login/signup on a website works on the back-end? Similarly, for Houses that contain CC that you Cannot See in My Library using the Gallery After a patch, you may need to turn this back on. From there, select Enable Custom Content and Mods. The process for downloading both CC and Mods is the same, so we will cover them both at once. How to Install CC and Mods Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods is the folder you need in order to install mods and cc. None of these things are meant to criticize Maxis/The Sims Studio, who are doing a wonderful job developing a game that's worth modding, but when you have all the hundreds or thousands of people who partake in adjusting the game and creating custom content for it, there's naturally many more hands working to make improvements and content for it. For example, door locks were released in a patch, but first came in the form of a mod. Mod creators sometimes fix bugs before EA does, and may at times be more in tune with the community's desires for how something should work. Some mods greatly enhance gameplay, make minor adjustments to how things work (like how often objects break), or simply fix something that irritates a lot of players. Mod creators work hard to make sure their content is stable and adds the functionality that is described when they share it with the Sims community. They may enhance a feature, or introduce entirely new features. Practically any game that is moddable has mods. Mods are game modifications to the Sims 4, pure and simple. is one of the best sites out there for downloading both CC and Mods for The Sims More options and better looking swag are what CC is all about. Since CC creators don't have to think about system requirements like Maxis does, and can also sink more time into each piece, they can make truly beautiful additions to the game that greatly enhance the graphics (especially in the case of hair) and increase the number of options available to the player. You'll find everything from wall patterns, to dressers, earrings, and beautiful flowing gowns. CC is hair, textures, objects, and clothing that can be downloaded and easily added to your game. In this guide, I'll teach you how to install CC and mods, explain what they are and offer some direction on where to go from here by providing links to sites where you can binge-download CC for your game.Ĭustom Content is simple compared to mods, thought they can sometimes take as much time to make. There is far more free content available to download than is included in the base game and all game/stuff packs combined. Mods and Custom Content are wildly popular among Sims 4 players, but if you're new to the franchise you may be unaware what treasures await those who ravenously scour the web for the latest downloads. You Don’t Look Like Your Mother**, by Aileen Lucia Fisher**Īccording to Amazon, this story “Recounts in verse a robin’s introduction to a number of animal infants who don’t look like their mothers, including her own.“1 Continue the Lesson The famed author of the Curious George books uses short verses to match animal mothers with their babies in this fold out book. In this story, author Caroline Arnold describes how zoo animals feed and care for their young. Mother and Baby Zoo Animals, by Caroline Arnold Spend time reading together and discussing what the preschoolers have learned. Each of the stories suggested below describe various mother animals and their babies. Read aloud time presents the perfect opportunity to introduce the different names for adult animals and their offspring. It is at this point that you can help the children make the connection to animals - that animals have different names depending on whether they are male or female, and that adults and babies (or offspring) often have different names as well. The answer would be “child.” You can take this opportunity to point out that the same name is used for young females. The answer, of course, is “women.” Now ask them if they can think of the name for a young male. Grown-up males are called “men.” Ask them if they can guess the name for grown-up females. Explain that there are two types of people - males and females. This is best illustrated by using what the preschoolers are most familiar with - themselves. Beginning the Lessonīefore you begin the preschool worksheet, mother and baby animals lessons or read alouds, you must first introduce the idea that animals have different names depending on whether they are male or female, and adult or offspring. Mother and baby animals are the focus, and the best introduction is to spend time reading about them. Preschool children have a natural fascination with animals - especially baby animals! Help your little ones learn the names of different animals and their offspring with these lesson ideas and coordinating preschool worksheet.
Now I am back on Windows for the time being, but I still like Godot even if it isn't as powerful for 3D, 2D it does quite nicely. Godot works fine on Ubuntu and probably other distros no problem. The thing that brought me to Godot was that I was on Ubuntu for a while, and couldn't get the big "U" engines working to my satisfaction. I am still evaluating engines, but I've tried most of the big ones. If you want Linux support, especially for the editor/IDE, then Godot is just about the best. I guess if you have enough hours in Godot that you know your way around it, it definitely pays off, but the way there can be frustrating. NET, you're free enough to always find a way to do what you want to do, and there'll be plenty of stuff on google, too, even for really easy things, so being stuck isn't really a common occurence either. Since RPG Maker is pretty straight forward, that isn't something I've ever encountered there, and in terms of. I'm often stuck at little but very annoying things that are unintuitive or don't seem to make too much sense, and if you can't find any source to look it up, you'll be stuck until somebody else helps out. I've also just started with Godot, and while I admire how flexible and powerful it is (and all that at no cost, no licence or anything, it's actually insane!), it really takes a while to get used to. NET background who has also used RPG Maker 2000 ages ago (Yes, I am old!), Godot is a lot more complex but also rewarding. However that will be of little value if you don't know how to work with the underlying engine itself so you should still start with tutorials on how to use godot and perhaps even a tutorial or two giving some general knowledge about programming if you have no past experience on this front at all.Īs somebody with a little. What might however make things easier is that if you search carefully you might find a template for the type of game you want to make that leaves you with a significantly smaller amount of work left towards a finished product. But it's important to acknowledge in all fairness that a general purpose engine will always be more complex than a purpose specific engine built for a very specific type of game. Godot is certainly beginner friendly in terms of comparing it to other full fledged general purpose game engines. If that is something you would value highly then yes, godot might indeed be a good fit for you. While godot would certainly be more complex to use it would also be much more empowering and unrestrictive. I use Linux Mint as my daily OS, currently its Cinnamon edition 20.1. But my thing is, is Godot beginner friendly? Will they work on making it beginner friendly if it's not? Also when will they support Linux ARM? Without dragging this on I like Linux and the open-source community and I want to support that. Forget trying to get a game on Linux ARM OS's such as Raspberry Pi OS, the program doesn't even get a game project on Linux Mint working. Despite RPGM claiming to have Linux support back around 2016. I've emailed the company and posted in the community but still nothing. Not to mention getting MV the previous version of RPGM that supposedly works on Linux via Steam/Steam OS. They give the PS4 and the Switch a RPG Maker but not Linux? How could you not support Linux in this day and age?Īpparently MV has a option to export game projects to Linux but when I tried that it didn't work and it seems no one really about Linux game deployment. My biggest problem aside from that is that they don't support Linux, I find it foolish for companies to still ignore open source and Linux after all things they have accomplished. But when I delved into it, I notice that it feels out of date and a bit restrictive which is why it is very reliant on others Java scripts to make changes and alterations to your game project to give it some extra flexibility. I've started out recently with a trial of RPG Maker MV and MZ, both are actually pretty beginner friendly, and have assets out of the box to get you started. |
